Everything I've ever read about writing says that you have to collect at least 50 form letter rejection slips before you work your way up to hand written almost-accepted memos. After a good 50 of those you get the first tentative half-penny-a-word offer from some unknown magazine or publisher. After a dozen of those, you suddenly explode onto the scene as a world-famous author, able to command top dollar for personal appearences where you do nothing but lament about the good ol' days when you weren't so famous and could order take out pizza without getting mobbed.

As a wanna-be author who doesn't actually write anything. I am green with envy over your first rejection notice.

I can't wait until you are rich and famous. Then I'm gonna write a tell-all book about you and do the sleazy talk show circuit, mobbing you when you try to pick up your pizza.

(BTW, if you haven't read Stephen King's On Writing, check it out)
