On the war front the U.S. and Britain on the 23/2/03 (Monday U.S. time) introduced a U.N. Security Council resolution to Saddam Hussein declaring that Baghdad has failed to take a final opportunity to disarm peacefully. In response to the U.S and Britain France, Russia and Germany have pushed for a counter measure that would give Saddam Hussein at least four more months to comply with international demands.--source NBC MSNBC and news services 24/2/03.
Of other note specifically to ERG is the Octopus venture---ERG do not run Octopus--source company announcement 14/5/2001 they do have intellectual capital tied up in it through Proton and have a maintenence contract and this would be additional to the technology that is being used inside the Hong Kong card to make it interopereable with other systems as is the case elswhere in the world.(uses the Sony FeliCa Contactless IC card system) (Octopus card uses proprietary technology.)ERG are on friendly terms with Octopus (one of the owners of Octopus is also a part owner in 47.1% equity accounted PCL as at 30/6/2002 reported 12/9 audited 1/10 for instance.) they have formed a consortium with Accenture, Thales and MTRC and it is this consortium that are bidding for the Netherlands whole of country contract.(Thales has an alliance with ACI world renowned Base24® software package designed for Tandem® Guardian based systems which is Hewlett Packard that Proton/ERG has an alliance with.) IDT Thales (Malaysia) is a vendor for PWI Thales is part of the Visa Global Smart Partners program Visa ia a lot to ERG as well as being abusiness partner it is also a shareholder.(the one in which ERG dropped out of) Armand Linkens CEO of Proton World (ERG 100% ownership of PWI 15/3/2002) (first announced on the 31/10/2001) stated recently, he would want Octopus (former name Creative Star) to synchronise it's plans with it as far as future moves go.Proton value added reseller E-Card (Keycorp) (Australia) continues to ship multi application smartcards to Hong Kong re SMARTPICS (Hong Kong terminal constructor, Pax Technology Limited, to propose Proton-based terminals to the market on the 9/1/2003)(Hong Kong ID Project to Use Smart Card Management Software From ACI Worldwide; ACI is Part of PCCW-Led Consortium Awarded Hong Kong ID Contract October 22nd 2002.)(ACI's role in the project includes delivery of the Smart Chip Manager.) (ERG basically has agreements with all of these company's to develop and market technology---taking the hoo ha out of it.) this ties in well with ERG and American Express agreement August, 26, 1997 for the future development of multi-purpose smart cards. The agreement enables American Express to issue cards using Banksys’ Proton E-purse technology and to utilize what will become the Proton network in Australia and New Zealand. Telstra own 50% of KYC and in exchange KYC control 50% of TLS's of a particular part of payments infrastructure TLS have (mutually beneficial--opinion) (of interest KYC has an alliance with a company under the control of a new company called UXC that used to be known as DVT Holdings and before that Davnet that does NSW drivers licences and the Cambodian I.D. card among other things.)
