Joyce Wolf will forever be remembered for the many kind things she did out of the generosity of her heart for others. Her work for the MIRA Foundation in raising monies for guide dogs was exemplary and I’m sure there are many, many examples of thoughtful deeds that she did because of the person that she was. A little boy who I had taught was the recipient of her generosity some years ago. As a teacher, she empathised with a student in another country who needed some special words of encouragement and her class sent him well wishes. As her kindred colleague, I was very moved by her class’ gesture ... but that was the kind of person that Joyce was ... always putting other people first.

That little boy is now in remission and his prognosis is looking good. Sadly, Joyce was not able to be as fortunate. Her passing well before her time, has left a gaping hole and we who are left to grieve, are saddened that Joyce’s vibrant personality is no longer with us. We can, however, remember and celebrate the essence of the person that she was. Leading by example she opened up our hearts and eyes to people less fortunate than ourselves and through her guidance led us to do something about it. She helped bring together people from around the world to share in her vision for others to see beyond the darkness and to share their love for LFN.

It was my privilege to have met her in 2005 on both a personal and professional level. Joyce was a beautiful woman who welcomed me so openly in Montreal in 2005 and whose kindness I will always remember. She was a whirlwind who didn’t stop from “go to whoa” and was someone who took you along for the exhilarating journey. Perhaps there is some solace in the fact that if not for Joyce’s untiring charity work and vision all those years ago, there would be many unsighted persons still waiting for their “eyes” to see. She was a remarkable and tireless workaholic who willingly gave her all for her family and friends, for the children she taught, her colleagues, the LFN community and for the MIRA Foundation.

My deepest condolences to her husband Tom, daughter Megan and granddaughter Allie. Joyce was larger than life ... an inspiring individual and a woman for all seasons who was taken way too soon. Only the good die young ... Rest in peace my friend and soar with the angels. Death is not the end, but … a glorious continuation of Life!

Di
