Nikita hated MedLab. Even in her own room, her own bed, she had no privacy. Glass walls made her feel like tropical fish in a tank. She was aware that more than the average number of Ops *happened* to be passing by her room just to get a look at her. After all, it wasn’t everyday that someone nearly got their face chewed off by a horde of rats.

During her previous, brief incarceration, Nikita had had two visitors. One was anticipated. The other was not. Madeline, of course, would want her to debrief. She had been living with a woman who thought she had found her long-lost daughter. Nikita had no emotional bonds with her own mother; would her "fragile" ego be able to survive the capture and subsequent cancellation of her surrogate? Of course. The trigger was retrieved; they had closure. Helen Wicke believed that her “daughter” still lived. Whatever.

Michael’s visit was a surprise. Since he was the one who ordered her beating, was the indirect cause of two broken ribs and a hairline fracture to the jaw, Nikita hadn’t expected him to come by MedLab, let alone say he was sorry. Her first thought was, “Who are you, and what have you done with Michael?” Instead, she told him no apologies were necessary. She was getting used to it. It was simply the way things are in Section.

And now MedLab had her again. In addition to IV antibiotics, oral antibiotics, and antibiotic ointment applied liberally and regularly to the rat bites, Nikita was subjected to a series of rabies shots as well. Could she *be* having any more fun? She’d forgotten from last time about the lights. They never turned off the freaking lights. She couldn’t sleep. But no sleep meant no dreams, and no dreams meant no rats, so Nikita decided it was an even trade.

No visit from Michael this time. He would stay clear of Nikita for a while. All the absolute crap he had fed her. Such pretty words. And she bought it. Bought it, and betrayed Section, just to save Michael. She couldn’t beat herself up enough for that one, even though she’d followed the unknown profile to the letter. Nikita had cracked under torture. Not hers, but Michael’s. She was surprised when she awakened in MedLab instead of the White Room. In her semi-conscious and drugged state, she was cautiously optimistic upon finding herself in a bed instead of a metal chair.

At one point in her haze, she had a weird dream/out-of-body experience. Michael appeared, dressed in white no less, at her bedside. He told her that what he said in the cages wasn’t all a lie, and then he kissed her. That could happen. Not.

Nikita knew the drill. She would get well, get in shape, and be sent on another mission where she’d probably be beaten again. It was simply the way things are in Section.
