Being still a newie to this writing thing, I , ah, can only, er, try to explain, um, what I do.

I think of the plot/story first. Then I work out the characters in the 'scene'. Then the words, if any, that they say.

It works if we already know how the character talks and therefore I tend not to put the ahs and ers in. Most of the characters in LFN are articulate so I think we all do the same and not use the pauses. Except for WillieKane who had the ers and ahs down perfectly. It fit with the character and he did a fabtastic job with it.

"Sometimes we do need the extra word", I say emphatically.

But that's when I do dialogue. It seems that most of the stories I do are 'thoughts' of person and therefore no ums and ers.

Also I am a visual person first then I work out the dialogue.
(Try watching LFN without the sound, or listening without the picture to see which you are.)

Made me think though.

Which is easier to convey?
