They had achieved closure, but it was late, and they were tired and hungry. Weary voices complained in the mission van about the lack of food and leg-room.

Walter doled out cold bottles of water and Power Bars; the last of their available rations. Six Power Bars. Seven people, including himself and Birkoff. But they were just as tired and hungry as the field Ops, so Michael refused. As team-leader, he was accustomed to sacrifice. To putting the needs of his team before his own.

As team-leader, he was also prepared. Michael carried a small supply of power rations just for occasions such as these.

The team slept, and Michael poured the remainder of his personal rations into his hand. Only five. It would have to do. Michael popped them into his mouth, chewing softly while careful folding the incriminating yellow wrapper, with ‘M&Ms’ written in large brown script, into his pocket.
