I was in the MUNCLE fandom way before I ever heard of LFN; before there was an LFN, actually. I never wrote for the fandom, but I read a lotta stuff. I can't think of a single AU story. There may have been some h/c or slash AU, but I don't read those genres so I couldn't swear to it.
Many, many stories are "prequels" to the series. What was Illya Kuryakin like as a child? How did he really become a part of UNCLE? I classify those as canon, since they either end during, or at least lead into, the show itself. Sort of like ZZoomama's backstory for Michael. The character is the same, yet his "recruitment" veers a bit. AU or canon?
