Hey, Johnno. Just a message to talk about this great band I saw the other night. Don't know how I ended up there but it was amazing. We went down this alley to a bar that I heard had some new bands playing. Had to ask someone and they said here it is. Behind the graffitti. Looked like a wall of paint but it was a door to paradise.

Three bands were on that night. The first was TrashBand87. Three girls singing with guitars and a guy on drums as backup voice. Strangest music ever heard. One girl even bought out a drill and drilled a piece of metal as sound effects. Loved their last song, "At Midnight I'm Gonna Take Your Soul"

Then came a group of four, no five. One guy just walked off in a huff. Some arguement and he said he'd rather die than play with this group again. So there was only an Asian girl, a young blond girl, a tall black guy and another white guy. Shit, could they play. The white guy on lead guitar and the black guy on keyboards were fantastic. Not taking anything away from the girls. They played their guitars with aplomb, but the guys overshadowed them. They called themselves "The Disposable Heroes"

But the main band, for me anyway, came after the quickest break ever. They didn't announce themselves. Just snuck onto stage. Didn't even give a name for the band name at the start. Just came out and played.

Hard to describe the six-member band.

An old long-grey-haired hippie guy on bongos and drums. Wearing a t-shirt with a map on it, and a red bandana. Didn't look out of place though. Looked like he'd been doing it for years.

A man in his fifties looked like the leader of the band but hardly played an instrument. Mainly kept on walking around and helping and telling the others what to do. Not how to play, but how to play it. Harder, faster, look at the audience etc. When he did play though, he knew how to do it. Probably been at it almost as long as the hippie guy.

Then there was the witch. Not a real witch but she could almost be one. Tallish and dark brown hair and wore black. She was an attractive lady. Probably the same age as the boss guy. Like him, she didn't do much except give advice. on how and what to do. She also took an instrument sometimes and once went into the audience as if she was looking for someone. And also these two just added backup voices when needed.

And then there was the keyboards guy. Young guy with glasses on keyboards. Yes, keyboardS, plural. Five keyboards around him. Reminded me of Rick Wakeman, but without the hair. He didn't play on one board for longer than thirty seconds, but the sound was amazing. He wasn't just making noise.

Now for the leads. These two were a perfect set. Both tall. He had the ubiquitous mullet haircut so he looked the part of a rockstar. And the girl. Tall. Blue eyes. She had her hair up. Then after a few songs she took it out. And she went with him perfectly, like a set of salt and pepper shakers. Matching bookends.

They once asked for any people from the audience want to play. I nearly did but some girl beat me to it. I knew her name from months ago. Met her at a party with you somewhere. We thought she was a bit weird. Karyn. I think the band liked her because some of the roadies in their balck clothes came over after she did her small guitar solo and took her backstage.

At the end the two leads once went onto the floor and danced. Real close. Mesmerising. Everyone had to stop and watch this dance. They were dancing with their whole bodies. At one time they only used their hands. It was so sexy to watch.
It was so fantastic to watch, that we (the audience), didn't evene notice the band leave. Then these two walked off together and that was it. No goodbyes or see you next time. Just gone.

I had to find out who they were. The bar manager had no idea. He had only booked the first band originally. Two other bands cancelled hours before and he thought he was going to cancel the night. Then the witch and her pal came up and asked if there was any time to play tonight. Of course he said yes. And now he wants them again. But he doesn't know how to contact them. He did hear something though. The second band may have been called Section Eight, he told me.

What funny names bands come up with.
Section Eight. Wasn't that the thing to get out of military service or something?
But I heard them call themselves "The Disposable Heroes" so he's wrong there.

Maybe the last band was Section Eight.

So, Johnno. Now you know my Saturday night out. One great girlie band, an amazing five-no-four piece. And the best til last. Yep. They are it. Nothing better. If there is a band you have got to see if you end up at a graffitti-colored door somehow, then this is the 1.
