Subject: Wednesday Roundup

First Wednesday Roundup:

This week Jaybee and I wanted to point you all toward the various LFN communities that have sprung up on LiveJournal.

LiveJournal is one of the popular hosts for fannish ‘bloggers’ and their ‘blogs,’ or personal journals. There are many blog hosts out there, and different ones have different focuses – politics, for example, or sports. Media Fandom writ large, that is, fans of all sorts of canon sources produced by film, television, computer games, comics, novels, and various combinations of the above, has found a huge home on LiveJournal, and LFN fans are part of the mix. Because the LFN fandom is actually older than the LiveJournal-based fandom activities, we still have active message boards (which is the internet programming that drives this board and the storyboards), and not all of the older LFN community here has found the newer, LFN LiveJournal communities there.

So for this first, Wednesday Roundup, we want to put up some links to help anyone interested find LFN fans and the newer fannish communities on LiveJournal.

La Femme Nikita’s Journal (or lfn_fans for short)- this is the oldest of the LFN LiveJournal communities. It isn’t very busy – though activity has increased quite a bit with each new season that arrives on DVD. Lately fans have been making and sharing icons – that is the small 100 X 100 pixels images that individuals use to identify themselves or comment on their posts in LiveJournal; sometimes both at once. Some of the latest ones are really fantastic as the DVDs make for excellent quality base images.

La Femme Nikita Icons – obviously, this community is dedicated to sharing LFN icons and icon making tips and strategies. The community has recently issued an LFN 100 challenge that several intrepid icon makers have taken up – and their work is well worth taking a gander at.

LFN Slash on Live Journal – linked at the top of the page, this community features new and old LFN fic that contains either a m/m or a f/f sexual relationship or encounter. The fic is not necessarily R-rated, but the same sex relationships are central to the content of all slash fanfic.

Alberta Watson Fans This is a fan community for Alberta Watson fans. It is a descendent of the old Alberta Watson website, which has faded away into the internet past, but many of the old regulars are still around, or can be found, through this site. The site keeps up with Alberta’s work since LFN, including several upcoming projects that sound very interesting.

Peta Wilson Fans This is a Peta Wilson fan community. You will see a fair amount of overlapping posts and membership between LFN Fans, LFN Icons, and this community - but like all communities centered around an actor, this one also carries updates on Peta Wilson’s latest work and upcoming roles and projects.

Oddly enough, there are no fan communities on LiveJournal dedicated to Roy Dupuis, Eugene Glaser, Don Francks, or Matthew Ferguson.

Perhaps there is room for some intrepid fan of these actors to create something new? LiveJournal offers both free and paid accounts.... *grin*
