Subject: The power of words...(r)

In a text message I was sent the sender substituted "cum" for "come", being that my mind resides in the gutter and I'm somewhat anal, I was particularly unimpressed. I find the word "cum" annoying and generally dislike its use, both in text messaging and in fan fiction where I think it is overused.

So here's my question: are there any words/terms/phrases which will either impede your enjoyment of a story or destroy your interest in it?
