Subject: Surnow, in my Never-To-Be-Humble opinion...
In reply to: Nell 's message, "I once had a teacher (r)" on Tuesday, June 07, 08:32:52am

is all about the 'flash'. As Catsma pointed out, 24 is *very* similar to LFN in this respect. (and WTF was thepoint of bringing Alberta on at all????) Interesting, even 'groundbreaking' premise for Season 1 and then it slooooooooooooowly peters out.

Personally I blame the fact that Surnow works without an overview or an plot arc in mind - that's true for LFN and I'm assuming it's true for 24, given the emphasis for the audience mind-fuck over actual plot and character developmnet. Compare him with Joss Whedon (and, no, I didn't watch Buffy or Babylon, but Joss has great respect from his fans because of his vision for his shows) or even Chris Carter. Now, granted, XFiles went to hell in a handbasket in the past years, but the show was on for 10 years. I haven't seen a Surnow show last over 5.
