Subject: You mean, the stupid plot trick (r)

of the remote detonation device that didn't go off?

I really dislike that plot trick - almost especially because no one ever comes home and yells at Walter - the tech guy.

Instead they yell at Michael - like some how he was responsible for building it himself. Or, at least Petrosian does - and Operations lets him do it. In fact grins while Petriosian does. That's when I decided that Operations pretty much fully earned all the crap he later got from Michael. Operational loyalty is a two way street in the military - a point made over and over again in military training and biographes and histories. Paul gets to yell at Michael - but not someone outside his chain of command. Especially for something as common and hard to plan for as equipment failure. Fah.

But, I can see how that plot point actually works to set up the situation the writers developed in S2.

The failed detonater in the last Jurgen sp? Stupid plot trick that calls into question Section's technology and technical skills - or rather should, only, doesn't.

Anyway - yes, the most obvious fic solution to keeping Jurgen around is simply to have the detonator work and the three of them carry on from there.
