He'd figured that his chances of being pinned beneath the weight of a beautiful woman half his age were shot long ago, but Earth was just full of surprises.

"Stay down, Commander" she said as she scanned the panicked crowd in the embassy ballroom. Her body twisted catlike as she tugged up her gown and freed a weapon from a thigh holster. With a single smooth motion, she rose to her knees and fired.

"Shooter down. All teams report."

She sat calmly on his chest with her black gown puddled between them until she received the all-clear.

He stood up slowly. "Thank you, Miss--?"

"You can call me Operations."

"I know there have been some lingual shifts, but that sounds more like a medical procedure than a name."

She laughed then, with a wistful smile that made him realize that she was out of practice. "My name is Nikita."
