I didn't follow all of the links, but I read a hunk of what he has on his site. He certainly seems to have a powerful reaction to what he perceives as a distinction between those who write for pleasure and those who write for profit (or the intention to make profit). I don't want to be too judgmental, but the tone is a bit strident, which makes him sound like he feels threatened by other writers who don't follow the same rules he does.

Interestingly, one of the objections he raises to fan fiction is the ownership issue (that fan writers are using other people's "property"), but further down in his blog he asks for help finding a story he read on someone else's blog, about trying to pick up women. Apparently, he liked the story well enough that he wants to "use it" in a book he's writing based on the television series "Monk." He does mention that he wants to write "his own variation" of this other writer's story, but isn't that rather close to what he despises in fan fiction?
