Wow, I found this discussion so interesting to read. Thanks for choosing me!

First, I'm sorry about the crossovers not being labelled as such. They were labelled when I first posted them on the Storyboards, and they are in my ff.net account, but I'm afraid author's notes didn't get included in the versions for Ranma. I can only imagine how confusing it was for people who didn't know! Sorry about that.

I do agree, though, with Nell and Nestra as far as that being a sign of early fic. I don't know that I really understood crossovers back then, and I had certainly never heard of songfics (which "And So It Goes" so painfully is). Nowadays, I use a standard header in my fics.

Speaking of author's notes, I should mention that "Playing the Street", the fic about Nikita playing chess for money, is inspired by an actual "deleted scene." I don't think they ever filmed it, but there was originally a brief scene planned in which Nikita earned money like this. I added Michael in just for fun :-)

These were the first fics I ever wrote, and all over the space of my freshman and sophomore years of college. I've written a lot of Buffy fic since then and it's a good exercise for me to go over that work and compare. I can most definitely see echoes of what I was reading at the time (Julie Garwood, for example - I see her influence in a lot of my LFN fic). I had also never really read fic in other fandoms.

Someone once described LFN fandom as "feral" - that this is the first and only fandom of many of its fans, more so than with any other shows, and that the feral fans don't migrate or integrate other fandoms. I think I see a bit of that in my early writing.

I don't read a lot of LFN fic anymore, so I hadn't really thought about my work compared to more current stuff. I do think there is that feeling of innocence I lent to both the characters and the environment. The show changed so fundamentally in the following years! My Nikita was so much younger than in later incarnations.

Anyway, I really appreciate all of your comments. This was a great stroll down memory lane! For future reference, my current pseudonym is "Nikitangel" - I only chose Alyssandra when Silk Angel popped up and I didn't want to be associated with her at all. My post-LFN fic can be found in my LiveJournal memories here
