"Tell me.." She paused as she put the metal electrode to the man's head. "..what I want.." She put the other electrode on his chest. "..to hear."
The man convulsed. He said calmly, "I will never tell you what you want to hear. I'll never break. Never."
"Tell me what I want to hear!"
"Never. You'll have to kill me first."
Her hand moved quickly. She threw the electrode away.
"I know. That's why we have to find someone else. You would die. You like the pain too much. And if I took your place, you wouldn't stop. You'd kill me, like you did the dog."
He got off the bench. Stood up. Looking very refreshed.
"You are right , sis. I wouldn't stop either way until one of us was dead."
"So what can we do?"
"Hey, how about we grab someone. Who though? Billy Thorndyke? Tommy Granville?"
He saw her speak with a smile.
"Yes, Tommy. He knows about your thing for receiving pain. How about we show him my thing for giving it? But if we go with this idea to where it will probably lead, what then?"
"Doesn't matter, sis. He always said he'd disappear to the city one day. I'll go get him."
He put this shirt on and moved towards the door.
"And, Simon,.."
He stopped and turned to her.
"Don't say 'my sis' or 'step-sis' or anything like that. Say my name to him. Makes it more personal that way."
"Sure thing...Caroline."
