I don't "identify" in the sense of looking for characters who have much in common with me, per se. If I did, I wouldn't follow LFN at all because I'm not much like *any* of them.

And now I ask you – when you do meet a character that reminds you of yourself, do you root for them in the way you root for your OTC?

Absolutely. I prefer older, complex characters who straddle the conventional line between good and evil but feel driven by some deep sense of purpose. With rare exceptions, I can't generally work up much interest in characters under 30, I'm afraid. Nor do I care for stereotypical heroes or heroines, because they lack that moral gray area that fascinates me. Furthermore, given a choice, I'm always much more interested in female characters than male ones, because I think issues of power and violence are more complicated (and thus more interesting) when faced by a woman.

You have this way of expressing yourself so beautifully and precisely. *is very ashamed of her own insanely rambly post* I too find myself connecting more with women than with men – as to why is something I'll have to think more about. Age doesn't usually matter for me, but I often seem to end up with the younger characters, lol.

Conversely, my interest in Michael *decreased* over time -- he was just barely old enough and had a nice moral ambiguity to him in the beginning, but as he became SuperMikey I lost all interest in him. (And Nikita had an edge over Michael in the gender department, so by the end I found her much more interesting than I did him.)

Hmm – I'll try to fit Michael in my theory, but am too tired to think about all that at the moment. I'll be back with this one. *g*
