Characters that I love and root for, however, the ones that usually (but not always) become my OTCs, are outsiders struggling to make sense of their new world, a world they can't get out of (and sometimes don't want too, the point is that it is a new world, with strange new rules, some of which make sense, some of which don't) - or a world that they can't get into and want very badly

Hmm - so you don't necessarily *get* your OTCs the way you get the other set of characters?

Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice

Just curious, how do you fit Elizabeth and Anne in the 'new world' situation? Could you explain a bit more? *hopeful smile*
