antler has a poem in which he describes a scene in 1994 at some orchestral event wherein the multitudes are standing for the tributary song to the flag and country and he sits it out while everyone around him is standing and participating in one way or another but he feels no scorn from those around him and flashes back to the sixties when he sat it out and he heard the voices from behind him and felt the stares of disapproval but nonetheless he says he will never salute the flag again

jeff has a poem of a similar nature but alas takes abit longer to make the same point tho less effective

anyway, it's interesting to me that i don't hear people talking about it much and i don't encourage it because i have little to say to excuse the deaths of 2100 servicemen and women not to mention the injuries for life. and of course one would be remiss to ignore the deaths to all humans in this conflict and the death to animals too and the disruption of science and agriculture and the end to musical composition and the destruction of hope and love and the spawning of uncertaintity, distrust and revenge.

what always accompanies me through my personal journey is a sense of sadness for the world and for the pain we are born to endure and for the irony of optimism in the face of the coming wind

i mourn for the loss of perfection that dwells in the silent sky somewhere at the tips our children's outreached hand
