what a wonderful challenge you face - and daunting.

there are so many supports in place for people like geo and i educating and raising a kid like danny because society perceives danny's presence as some sort of burden (and in some ways it is but no more burden than any parent faces; just a different burden than might be typically experienced). you and pa are now in a similar situation, but my sense is that it is without the same set of supports in place to navigate unfamiliary territory.

schools have become more enlightened and so has the community at large- to a point that i often wonder how a public school system can meaningfully address the needs of the gifted kids when so many resources are spent on kids like dan (not that i want any of these to be given up - but i had to say to our physical therapist that i thought it was time to be done, and i reduced the time our occupational therapists was with dan as well.)

you are starting an interesting dance - one where i would guess it would be easy to assume the lead perhaps too often. fzm is a good kid as well as a gifted one - trust your gut, remain firm in your convictions as parents, and continue to seek out challenges and resources as you move forward with this new parental experience. keep us in the loop - i'd love to hear your successes (as well as your frustrations).
