sing out loud... sing out strong....
Sesame Street anyone? I loved that show - really sad when my kids outgrew it because I never have.

I guess this is a response to pjk -

I did not intend to dismiss your feedback pjk - and actually thought I gave it credence. What I have struggled with is negating for the purpose of negating without offering an alternative for discussion. Perhaps this has been a challenge in this biomass debate because we have not agreed on the problem - perhaps not.

In your original post pjk you stated that:

"It's just that biomass is as old as cavemen and women and also what the poorest 15% of the earth use for fuel and not especially profound. AS for modern day genetic manipulation of crops... I'm quite suspect. The nuclear age challenges the status quo daily; I'm not inspired by all challenges to the status quo. i am not enamored of scientists or their discoveries, per se. I am distressed by those who favor war as a political solution. the protean types to which pa referred are not immune to the distresses of the world for they are human, not ancient greek gods. perhaps they are inspired by their distress. i don't think there are smiles painted on their faces."

I'd like to take a few of these and offer an alternate --
Re: the use of biomass not especially profound - I would support your argument that it's not a new idea - however the technology developed in trying to make this energy source meaningfully usable given today's constraints is profound. I might add wrought with opportunity.

Re: not being enamored by scientists and their discoveries - I'm sorry about that. The scientists and their discoveries are certainly no better to the value of the world than the artists, writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians and their discoveries BUT each is a contributor. To disregard without understanding I think devalues the good, the bad and the ugly when I believe your real desire is just to negate the ugly.

Re: the moving into war - you just plain lost me there in a tangent I didn't follow.

A personal aside - of those on the voy geo and i are clearly less well educated in the liberal arts than the group as a whole. we've used this opportunity to read areas we might not immediately gravitate. i hope that the diversity of our respective academic and personal preparations brings diversity to our individual reflections on complicated topics.

Finally, I would appreciate you maintaining decorum enough on the voy not to swear at me even if in acronym. I never get personally offended by someone who disagrees or who feels I have mis-understood or mis-represented their perspective. When I make those mistakes, I value being corrected, and so invite you to do so.

I will be personally offended with vulgarity or slander. I trust our friendship is above that.
