Another airline travel challenge with an ending that was a first for me:

I was in CLE the last 4 days, returning last night. I get to the airport for my 6:45pm flight on Midwest - "the best care in the air" - if you can get in the air.

Anyway, the typically exasperated gate worker informed me that the flight was cancelled due to earlier issues with a flight, and fog in MKE. It was cloudy in CLE.
"get me on continental".
"all booked. there is nothing out tonight (at 4:30 in the pm)"
"how about through chicago or detroit?"
"you'll have to stay in a hotel and fly tomorrow"
"but ...."
"..."
"you're telling me there are no options?"
""

I'm thinking there is no way to get to MKE. I've got no cell phone, I see no public phone (I'm sure I could have found one).

Anyway, I spotted some other Rockwell employees (didn't know, but recognized), and went over to see what they were thinking, and then I remembered - the RA CORPORATE jet flys on thursdays between CLE and MKE. They had cell phones (one had 2!) - and after several calls we finally got the guy who manages who gets on "keith's plane". And there was room.

So, we had the jet center send a van for us over in the oh so pedestrian public terminal, hung out in the plush waiting area reading magazines about CORPORATE jet life and piloting and used jet prices... flew in a very nicely appointed jet - mahogoney, stocked bar, room for 10 in a scattered seating arrangement, landed in light rain but no fog to speak of.

And hugged my kids and wife goodnight.
