liked the earthship and wind sites. I've been pondering a greenhouse here - not likely for a year or so when the kids outgrow the swingset. Not wanting to do it unless I can do it with solar, wind or other power - not interested in running a power supply through the yard.

An aside on the cats -- leash law in Tosa. We've been finding haws hunting in our backyard for the past couple of Winter/Springs - eating chippies and baby bunnies. With the cats for the most part indoors, there is an explosion of small rodents. Great fodder for the local hawks. Pretty cool to watch them perch in the cherry when there are no leaves on the brances - even the cats in the house hunker down and look for coverage.
