i would say that it is both the founding and the foundation. 'certain inalienable rights' seems to have spawned from the belief that 'all men are created equal in the eyes of god' . women are covered by this clause as are all races, creeds, politics, et al.

i think that it's a complicated mix of intellect and belief that founded our country. our debt to the Greeks and their pantheon of gOds cannot be overstated as is the influence from the french and others.

but i think in today's cultural climate some sectors treat all things Christian with non-latex, hypo-nonallergenic gloves.

as i say, i've never really read up on this topic so i'd like to do that and add more later. in the meantime, all feel free to flame away at the weakness of my argument. it's the respectful dialectic that i enjoy because it does keep me thinking and working and keeps the redrum paranoia of isolated living at bay.
