thought you'd find this interesting. As you may know I've been involved in discussions with out school board on budget issues which may result in the closing of a school. Tosa currently serves close to 400 children K-5th grades who are non-resident students (overwhelmingly open enrollment). One elementary school is approximatly 25% non-resident, and is the one considered for closure.

Parents of those kids, open enrollment parents, and other residents favoring keeping all schools open have now allied with MICAH (Milwaukee Innercity Churches Allied for Hope). They have presented to the school board (I was there) that God planned for our community to be in a position to serve open enrollment kids now by spurring the building spree in the 40s-60s. Closing a school goes against God's will.

Try to debate that argument in a politically volatile environment and not come out unscathed.

As an aside, very seriously considering a run for school board. Something I've always wanted to do - not the right time (kids too small with too much going on that requires parental involvement - too much time away from home). Yet, very much the right time - too many substantive issues on the table to let the 4 open seats go to nut jobs; likely 3 would turn over to a group who can't debate this issue on any level - the group is actively submitting a slate of candidates. Have to make a decision by 12/1 - the day I can start submitting nomination papers. I realize hard to communicate this by written word - but really struggling with this decision.
