>> Just out of curiosity.... How does a person that is already involved in politics make a final decision on who gets your vote?
I try to "align incentives" -- that is, vote for the person whose interests are best aligned with mine. I mean the person who is going to operate (I hope) the way I would operate. You know, transparency/open government, due process, common good, accountability, etc., etc.
>> Do you vote for someone just because they are your friends?
Not usually, although I tend to be friends with people with whom I share values and viewpoints, although not always. Some of the nicest, warmest people I know are screaming, Great-Society, government-can-cure-all, crunchy liberals. Happy to have them as friends. Wouldn't vote for them.
Also, the more you know somebody, the better you can judge if your incentives are aligned. Can't always judge the other guy, so you may go with the known quantity rather then take a chance on the unknown.
>> Are all the people that run this board democrats?
No. I am one of four (for now) who "run" this board. I am not a Democrat (at least not a capital-D Democrat). Therefore, not all the people who run this board are Democrats. (Logical syllogism)
>> Does it bother you that Ms. Garry never took the time to answer some of the questions I put forward, for her and Mr. Myers to answer? I know that some of my concerns weren't on a state level. At least I took the time to throw some questions out there!
Nope. Doesn't bother me. Didn't expect different, and I'm not sure I would respond to an internet forum if I were she (unless the forum was well run and had a proven track record).
>> What is your outlook for the election? Who do you think is going to win the seat of State Rep?
Could go either way, IMHO. Depends on who gets their vote out.
>> What are your thoughts about the next election for President? Are you happy with Mr. Bush? Or are you welcoming Kerry with open arms?
C) Neither of the Above. Who I'm voting for, I'll keep to myself (although one could figure it out easily enough).
My thoughts from a commentator/observer viewpoint continue to be:
- JFK was not the best choice for the Democrats if they were seriously trying to take W. out.
- The elite media is fixated on states that went for W. last time (New Hampshire, Ohio, Missiouri, Nevada, Arkansas) that could possibly go for JFK this time.
- Actually, you should keep an eye on states that went the other way last time that are more in danger of going to W. this time. They had narrower margins in 2000 than New Hampshire (except, of course, the obvious Florida). I'm talking about Wisconsin, New Mexico, Iowa and Oregon.
- With this latest "bounce", some polls and news organizations are talking about Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan being in play. If those three states are even close to going for Bush, it is o-v-e-r.
That's what I think!
