It seems you didn't take note of Cain and Abel. Before the law even existed, they tithed. But Cain didn't do it of a pure heart.
You also didn't take not of Abraham, who tithed to Melquizedech ( please excuse the spelling ), before the law was introduced.
Tithing is not from food, but from our increase. If we are increased in food, then tithe in food. If we are increase in money, then tithe in money.
Paul confronts the Corinthians, which is after the law, during this age of grace, and tells them to make good on their tithe. We are also supposed to tithe with a cheerful heart. It is not bondage to give back to God part of what He has provided to us. It is a demonstration of our thnkfulness, for which God can and does continue to bless us with abundance.
