Although the people who will actually use your web site will determine whether the design project is a success, ironically, those very users are the people least likely to be present and involved when your site is designed and built. Remember that the website development team should always function as an active, committed advocate for the users and their needs. Experienced committee warriors may be skeptical here: these are fine sentiments, but can you really do this design in the face of management pressures, budget limitations, and divergent stakeholder interests? Yes, you can — because you have no choice if you really want your Web project to succeed. If you listen only to management directives, keep the process sealed tightly within your web development team, and dictate to imagined users what the team imagines is best for them, be prepared for failure. Involve real users, listen and respond to what they say, test your designs with them, and keep the site easy to use, and the project will be a success.

What are your web design goals?

A short statement identifying two or three goals should be the foundation of your Web site design. The statement should include specific strategies around which the Web site will be designed, how long the site design, construction, and evaluation periods will be, and specific quantitative and qualitative measures of how the success of the site will be evaluated. Building a Web site is an ongoing process, not a one-time project with static content. Long-term editorial management and technical maintenance must be covered in your budget and production plans for the site. Without this perspective your electronic publication will suffer the same fate as many corporate communications initiatives — an enthusiastic start without lasting accomplishments.

Know your web design audience

The next step is to identify the potential readers of your Web site so that you can structure the site design to meet their needs and expectations. Group critiques are a great way to explore what makes a Web site successful, because everyone on the team sees each site from a user's point of view. Have each team member bring a list of a few favorite sites to the critique, and ask them to introduce their sites and comment on the successful elements of each design. In this way you will learn one another's design sensibilities and begin to build consensus on the experience that your audience will have when they visit the finished site.

Hi, I just purchased PSP Studio and I'm trying to work through the learning curve. One place I'm stuck is borders. I know that sounds pretty goofy, but here's my query:
I want to only put the border on a picture, not the whole document page. I can use frames, but they're huge and unsightly for my smaller pics. But when I try using the "create border" button, it flattens all the layers and puts the border around the page, not the image I want it on. What do I do?
Does anyone know any good sights or books for tutorial?

I have a group at msn that you might be interested in looking at and hopefully join.
We will post daily bead work, candle making, crochet, cross stitch, gardening tips, hardanger, house hold tips, knitting, kids corner, plastic canvas, PSP tutorials, silk ribbon embroidry, recipes, scrapbook, sewing and quilting, soap making, tatting, weaving, and everything else I can think of. We will also be having weekly chat sessions if all works out. This is a G rated group and all are welcome.

Hey Wiz, Deb and Brenda..

On the PSP 8 - it looks good..Has a few things, that I am confused on. But then, new software is always like that. A bit intimidating at first..I remember PSP7 when I first looked at it..Didn't know where to start..Couldn't even do Text..

I am taking Filter Frenzy 2, but I am going to slack off after that and take a break.. I know this board is a great idea because people always have questions. I know I always have one about HTML or PSP..I just think there are not that many people that are aware that we are here..I check in every day.

Looks to me like our happy group of PSPers is dwindling down to a precious few.

I'd like to know what to do to stimulate some interest, enough to keep us together. Ideas, anyone?

What about PSP8? Is there something there to spark a bit of interest? I'v not seen or heard anything after the big flurry about the release of the Beta. Not a peep from Exodus. Anybody got a smidgen of news about it.

I've got my fingers crossed that the pre-release upgrade offer holds for a couple of more days. If it does, I'll order the Mail copy with CD and printed manual.

Anything? Anybody?

Been playing with PSP8, wow there are a lot of changes. Sounds like another class to me. Some things look like improvement.

I'm awfully glad to see that you are replacing the mb!!!

I've been negligent in posting, but I will do my best to keep popping in and adding my two cents worth. That's usually about as much as it's worth. LOL

I'm ready to start learning PSP 8...and thanks to Linda at Exodus she is starting the fundamentals this week. I've not played with it to much, but I'm sure after I get used to it, it will be okay. Will be glad when the beta version is over and the real thing is implemented.

Have fun with Mardi Gras Debi!!! One day, I hope I can attend one.....It sounds like such fun!!!

I'm thinking of going for the upgrade with CD and Manual. Seems like a pretty good price, but I'm hoping for a delay in release till after the 13th so I can take advantage of the prerelease price. (Don't ask!)
