"I have also thought about how it's built into us as mammals for reasons of survival. How it relates to the fear of being the animal who is cast of from the pack to fend for ones self, the cast off one usually doesn't make it, and spends most of it's remaining days trying to work itself back into the pack."

>I like this comparison with animals. Very interesting and informative. AND I think the human animal has taken specialness to an even greater extreme than this natural inclination of animals for I remember how I used to feel special BECAUSE I was left out and BECAUSE nobody loved me. Somehow in my young mind I figured that I must be Most Special of All to God because of this. Fortunately for animals they are unable to think up such illogicalities.

"So my feeling about wanting to be seen as uniquely special, is that it gets a big green light. The task for me is to hold others specialness along with my owm. Which changes the whole thing, because if everyone is so special, no one can be especially special. So I don't see the need to be seen as special, and the need for attention as anything that needs to change by this process of integration we are going through."

>I see what you're saying here and it's true as long as we are aware that everyone is special. However this often isn't the case in our primitive mind where many of these decisions have already been made. It seems to me that the need to be more special THAN others can develop quite easily into a governing sentimentality that operates unconsciously in our life. For instance my GS of being the most unloved and rejected one became a lifetime pattern for me. It was reinforced time and time again by my mind's computation that this is what made me more special than others.

YES we are all unique and special. Just not MORE special than anyone else. This need to be more special seems to be related to the duality of our thinking. If I am up, then you must be down. If you are #1, then I must be #2. If you are the most loved one in the family, then I must be the most unloved etc. etc. Raising our thinking out of duality into multiplicity helps us to realize that we can all be simultaneously special. And then, as you point out, we can relax into it and HAVE it. Yum. Thanks for bringing all this up.

Huge hug, Cassie
