He proposes a manned station on the Moon, and a later manned expedition to Mars.

Myself, I applaud the attention to space research but doubt very much that Bush will allocate funding for a Moon base or a Mars trip--we're talking hundreds of billions of dollars. I suspect that both proposals will sink without a trace after the 2004 election even if Bush wins. But perhaps that's just my natural skepticism.

Looking at the latest medium-resolution panorama from the Spirit lander really makes me wish I personally could walk around that landscape, though!
