Subject: Christian phrases and words in everyday language

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't posted here a while (although I do get the time to briefly scan over the messages). Other things have kept me away from message boards as of late.

Anyway, I was thinking about the amount of Christian phrases and words, etc. appear in everyday language and was wondering if others have any to offer? When you think about it, or are on the look out for them, there are actually a lot. Many people use them and don't even know that they have a biblical background.

This is what I have so far:

Someone may say that a good person is "the salt of the earth" (comes from Jesus' words)

"You reap what you sow" (Galatians)

A person who has left jail and is wanting to go straight is said to "be on the straight and narrow" (comes from Jesus' words about the straight and narrow path).

"Written in stone". This is said when someone is speaking of a binding rule. (comes from Moses and the stone tablets that God wrote the 10 commandments on).

If someone is a doubter they are called a "Doubting Thomas" (from the doubting disciple of Jesus in the Gospel of John).

I have others (but don't have my list available at the moment). Can anyone think of any others? I think that this may make an interesting article for the site.
