No one in the books asked for followers except Jesus Christ.
The Bible wasn't published until a couple of hundreds even thousands of years apart from the time when the people lived so your point really isn't justified. However, if you are saying that man wrote it alone for personal gain then you are wrong by a long shot. The Holy Spirit was the author thru the people, the evidence is clear in the scripture as they describe how the Holy Spirit is moving upon them and the infallibility in scripture. Also, I've seen time after time how the Spirit works in prophecy and prophecy thru writing. God did not intend for us to live our lives in the church but the church be alive thru us. For we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, but in a natural sense we do need to give offering so God could have seed in our lives to work with. If you call offering propagandizing then yes we are out to "spread information to further a cause" and in order to do this we do need monetary and supplementary valuables. Strange how a doctor never says "pay me what you feel in your heart to pay me".
