Siddharta Gautama (Buddha is a title meaning enlightened one) was born into the ruling class in his country. He married at the age of 16 and lived most of his life in luxury and comfort. How does he at all compare to Jesus?
Before he reached his thirties he grew fearful of death and realized that life wasn't much more then a short lived and not always happy existance. He, like many other mortal men who didn't know much about the true God, went on a quest for enlightenment that took him to other religons that believed being in a state of trance were you felt nothing was being enlightened. He was indeed an intelligent man who gathered together some fundamental truths about life in Satan's world, such as our problems come from desire for pleasure, power and continued existence. He believed to stop desiring was the way to get out from under disappointment and suffering. He combined things he learned such as meditation and goodwill into the eightfold path to Narvana. He believed we have no eternal self and that through right views, intention, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, mindfullness and concentration we all could follow his route and achieve the zone in our lifes were we are the happiest. He taught that his way worked for him and never assumed he was a god or even godlike, it was his followers who attempted to make him out to be a godlike person after his death.
So sorry he doesn't even compare to Jesus who walked on the earth declaring he was the son of God and that he would rise from the dead three days after he was killed. So Jesus was either a nut or really was the son of God, which of course we know by the martydom of his followers and the fullfillment of prophecy that he was the latter.
