Subject: In Those Old Photographs

I watch visions of my past frozen in time,
Pictures of every single one I've loved.
Those smiles there that said I was alive,
Because they were sent specially to my eyes.

Oh the music my mind sees in these instant paintings,
Black and white yet their living color shines through.
Still life more real than any artist could ever produce,
Having learned that any flash in time is only what it is.

It is a moment of mortality caught in a precious second,
Only one of those millions yet you can still savor it.
When memory fails you they are there never to do so,
Little human made miracles of 5 x 7 paper cherished.

Of course there are sad windows that newspapers can reveal,
Bodies of loved ones brought back from man made wars.
Car crash deaths dried in overnight ink greeting you,
Always wondering if one you love might die there.
