Subject: JRTs added to insurance banned list

This was on the UKC boards. And I went and read the article - scary stuff happening out there. Will one of my breeds or yours be next?

Please cross post :) Karen

All you with breeds who believe the breed profiling by home insurance
companies won't affect you, please read the following. It describes some of
the breeds already banned by some carriers: Please get involved.

The way we may be able to get more support from other breeds for this
legislation is to forward some of the information about the breeds banned.
I
was reading in the Journal article posted on the list that there are many
"profiled" breeds they might not suspect would be on the list, like:
Bulldogs, Dalmations, Greyhounds, and Irish Setters. But, I can also tell
you all from personal experience that one of my co-workers was denied
insurance because she had.... get this....
A JACK RUSSELL TERRIER!!!!
That's right, a puny little pooch that, according to the State Farm branch
in
this South Dayton, Ohio area, is too prone to biting and/or destruction so
it
is on the State Farm banned breed list. Any breed can fall suspect, and the
insurance industry must be held to a higher standard. It is a slippery
slope. Once you allow profiling of one breed, it may be any breed that they
choose to discriminate against without a factual basis. Please feel free to
cross-post this to other lists. The King County Journal article is at
http://www.kingcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/123285.
