"PERMISSION TO CROSS POST
Today in the Virginia Statehouse a major blow was
struck against the wealthy animal rights activist who
has been swamping us with bills. This in PETA's
backyard.

HB 2927 the really bad bill we told you about was
struck by the sponsor. Del. Kilgore did the right
thing and pulled this bill.
The other lesser bills that would still have been a
pain in the rear were either tabled or PBI (means put
back in, I believe) by the subcommittee. They will not
be passed on to the full committee. This means we will
probably never see these bills again. The only bill
that was reported to the full committee was the bill
increasing licensing fees and it was so watered down
as to be worthless. The wording was changed from shall
to may and it was amended to leave the choice on
licensing fees to the local jurisdictions and they
don't have to have a fee if they chose not to deal
with it.

I believe this was a major victory!!

I think a large part of the credit goes to all those
who wrote, emailed, faxed or phoned in opposition to
the bill. Another part of the credit should be given
to Mr. Tom Evans. Mr. Evans is a professional lobbyist
who was hired by the Virginia Federation of Dog Clubs
to represent them and he did an excellent job. Mr.
Evans is a fox hunter, loves dogs and horses and this
was a personal issue for him. For anyone out there
dealing with these issues I strongly recommend
spending the money to put a professional face on your
work. Mr. Evans knew the people to talk to and he is
very well respected. He was there this morning and
spoke politely but definitively to the subcommittee
about each of the bills. This is not to lessen the
impact of the animal lovers and their assistance but I
think the fight was shorter due to Mr. Evan's work. I
think we would have won in the long run but this made
it quick and less costly.

We can all sleep a little easier now - IT'S OVER!! at
least for this year and this state "
