Regardless of whether you like Ted Kennedy or not, you have to admit that he's well known and probably not a terrorist in the sense of someone out to kill Americans. (No comments from the peanut gallery please.) Anyway the government instituted this great "no-fly" list to assist airport security in weeding out terrorists. The idea that a list of names with little or no extra information can help weed out terrorists is ludacris. Here's an example, the list contains the name "T. Kennedy", so Senator Ted Kennedy is denied an airline ticket. This occured several times during March 2004. In some cases he was eventually allowed to board the plane, but in other cases the delay in getting supervisor approval to board caused the Senator to miss his flight. It took him several weeks to get the problem fixed through the Department of Homeland Security.

From the acticle I read: "According to FBI documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union under a Freedom of Information Act request, more than 350 Americans have been delayed or denied boarding since the list's inception. The list hasn't led to any arrests, officials said."

Here's the article link:
<a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/08/20/MNGQ28BM1O1.DTL">http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/08/20/MNGQ28BM1O1.DTL</a>

The truth is oridinary citizens are going to be effected by this. They have little or no recourse if they are denied. The chance that this "no-fly" list will ever assist in the capture of a terrorist is slim to none. So why do we have it? Window dressing, for the government to point at as actions to protect Americans. Bull shit.

The government cannot properly protect - it is a controlling mechanism by default.Rob Dog Bastard04:09:06 08/23/04 Mon
