I have to agree with Schilda... and in fact if I weren't so busy at work last night I would have beaten her to the punch!

Although I do agree that compulsory military service is preferable, I have reservations on wheather that would actually be the best thing because of how I think it could affect the culture in our country. Would America still be America if all citizens were required to serve a term of military service? I can almost see us perceiving this as a country of drones if we were require everyone to serve.

As far as allowing the draft to include all branches, I disagree that it should. Take the Marines for example. The USMC has always been 100% volunteer. Changing this would remove the fact that every Marine had a desire to be an elite in this county's military. Not only that, but it would undermine the strength of the Corps by introducing a lower bottom average of physical and mental characteristics for Marines. This would cause the Marine Corps to become the same as the Army and therefore redundant and not needed.
