I came across this book a while back on Slashdot. I think some of the forum readers/posters might enjoy it as an exercise in what liberties Americans should/don't have. The book follows a group of entrepreneurs attempting to develop a completely private (no goverment subsidies or oversight) launch system for cheap space access. That's what drew my attention, but as I've gotten deeper into the book, I realize that a major theme is how much power/corruption exists in the government and it's various agencies. I've actually read several sci-fi books recently that incorporate this theme. Probably a mainstream idea in the geek/computer culture these days. Anyway, the book is free (read the download page for a description of why) so take a look.
