Thanks, glad to be back.

I think the photographs illustrate the extent of the issue. The only reason somebody would take photgraphs is that they believed there would be no repercussions. At some unfortunate level, they believed that they were not doing anything wrong. This would be a symptom not of the individuals (who may have done the same things, but without taking pictures), but of the general attitude towards the prisoners and towards Iraqis and arabs in general, not to mention the weak command structure in place over there (isn't this the military? what's going on over there?).

Unfortunately, in my narrow view fo the world, I see this as another sad example fo Americans' view of themselves as superior to all others, and especially to non-Anglo groups. Not all Americans, mind you, but on a general level we tend to be willing to overlook the needs of other ethnic groups in favor of our own. Ratchet on down the line from general viewpoint to individual hatred and throw in a little good old-fashioned stupidity and you've got our current Iraqi prison scandal.

I don't have a solution which makes my argument stupid, but I just woke up so that is what you get.
