so we ". . . need to stop being hypocrites," heh?

"We can do something to prevent these bastards from executing innocent civillians. I believe in fighting fire with fire. Let's go get a muslim and behead him with a salad fork or a butter knife, then set up large audio/video displays in every city in the middle east and play it for them to see. If that doesn't work, get some of their kids and do it to them."

So, it's OK for us to execute civilians, including children, because they execute civilians?

"We need to put our nuclear power to use. What is the point of having all these nukes if we never get to see anything glow?"

Should EVERY country with nuclear capacity think this way to keep things on a level playing field?

"Sad thing is, these people have no honor. As people with high morals, we deplore this kind of barbarism . . . ."

Yet we should retaliate by fighting fire with fire and start conducting beheadings as well? How is this not equally barbaric? Where are the honor and high moral in such action?

Ray, I grew up learning to cower under my desk or in the school hallway during the Cold War, somewhat scared because we didn't spend the money to build a bomb shelter in the back yard. I have a son of draftable age and one just a tad younger. I want them to marry somebody's daughters who will give me grandkids. I want them to be able to grow up in world without intolerable and insurmountable anger and hatred. I don't think this will happen in my life time.

I really don't have the proper perspective to make a determination, but it seems the fears I had as a kid were easier for me to cope with than the fears I now have as an adult. Was it "safer" to live then in a time when there was a Berlin War and more than one universallly acknowledged "super power" than now?

I don't think I have any answers, but beheading civilians (and children) does not seem to be the way to go, no matter which side does it.
Blowing up thousands (or millions) of people by flying planes into buildings (or dropping nuclear bombs) doesn't seem to be a logical or civilized solution either.

And I wonder whether my generation (those who went to Viet Nam and those went to Canada or stayed home; those who burned their bras and those who didn't) will have left this world a better place for our having been here? What happened?
