Subject: I liked the Matrix...

I thought it was a great movie. Well acted, the CGI looked good (definitely not a given), the concept art (and follow through) was killer (Geoff Darrow is a warped individual), and the story was interesting and fun.

The X-men stuff is good, but it's not exactly breaking new ground, or even throwing us any curves. We know what happens with all the X-men. It was in the comic years ago. While it is cool to see it acted out on the sceen I already know what is going to happen (ohh Wolverine has an adamantium skeleton how did that happen). All that shit with Agent Smith was just plain cool and had me on the edge of my seat (Elrond my arse, I'll always hear him say "Mister Anderson!"). I admit all in all it's pretty pointless, but then that's why it's gratuitous good fun in the first place. I'll see it(X2) when it hits DVD.

The only thing I'm a little concerned about with the new Matrix movie is that the CGI stuff is going to be overdone. What I've seen so far in the teaser trailers looks really good, but on the big screen (or on DVD) any irregularities or flaws will stand out. It looks like they have way more CGI with the actors than they did the first time around, and that's where they can get into trouble if they aren't careful (the human eye is very hard to fool when working with the human face and form).

The Hulk ought to be good because Ang Lee is a good director with an excellent sense for visual storytelling with a good plot and dialog. I'll wait for that to hit DVD.

The Return of the King goes without saying. I've got really high hopes there and I know I won't be dissapointed (I hope). I'll go see it in the theater.

All in all though I think the new Matrix movie is going to be the most fun movie out this summer and then we have the final one to look forward to in November (now that's the way to do a trilogy). The game sounds cool too. I've always liked video games with a lot of cut scenes. The Wing Commander games were a blast, and if it's handled like that it could be a lot of fun too and it'll be a first to have production values set on that high of a scale (the Wing Commander cut scenes were amaturish at best). Other games have done good too, but it's generally through voice acting alone. Replayability won't be a strong suit but for me that isn't a huge priority.
