Subject: Bottom of the table, friend, always read the small print:
In reply to: «ºTone Caponeº» 's message, "Just thought I should report on some crime statistics between the U.S. and the Netherlands:" on 16:57:26 04/16/03 Wed

"Data supplied by the country but not calculated using the Secratariat's method"

And guess what, we have different laws than you. I'm guessing that under Dutch laws, the larger part of your gun deaths which you don't count as murder (those 12,000 a year) would be murders, and guess how the numbers would look then.

Admitted, though, we probably do have more thefts and breaking and entering than yoy. But I'm sorry, but thefts just don't count up against murders, and with a law correction your murder rate would far outpace ours.

This is the problem with numbers, though, you can play with them forever and nobody bothers to read the fine print. I once followed a debate where two people were using the same numbers the argue opposing views. That's the problem with Interpol, you can trust their numbers, but they don't tamper with them; the numbers are completely raw and, for that reason, useless for any lay person.
