The biggest risk is not to teach them respect. While I can control the guns in my house, I can't control the guns in the houses of my kids' friends.

When I was 12, I had a .243, .22, and a 20 Gauge shotgun, which I kept in my room, along with the ammo. Why? Because I was responsible. I used to go out shooting with my friends all the time and it was no big deal. How many people that I was pissed off at did I shoot? None. How many times did I accidently shoot someone? None.

Some of you seem to refuse to believe that people can be responsible with weapons. I was responsible with weapons when I was 8, because I had a lot of exposure to them. Guns weren't something that had an irresponsible appeal because I never saw them, they were a common tool to me and my friends and because we saw them all the time and knew the dangers of handling them irresponsibly, we didn't play with them.
