America has a good program for dealing with poverty: work hard, keep yourself focused, be responsible, and you'll be rewarded. We have many programs to help too. When I graduated high school, I had a scholarship that would pay for tuition and fees at any state university in Oregon, but I wouldn't have been able to afford living expenses, books, etc... (we were pretty poor). I joined the Army, got my degree, and in a few months I'll be making pretty good money. In the meantime, I'm living on savings that I planned ahead for and didn't squander.
