The thing was they were reporting people defacing pictures and statues of Saddam Hussein, sort of like, "Look, the Iraqi people really want to be free, and this is what they really think of Saddam Hussein (since they won't be executed for showing their feelings)!"

However, the most common thing done to the objects, was the hitting in the face with a shoe or sandal. One dude did a "pelvic thrust" to a picture of Saddam on a canvas (they only showed it a few times, now they just show the first part of it, which is a guy beating Saddam's face with his sandal).

In the states, we don't care about that. Where I grew up, things are pretty casaul as far as stuff like that. We do show respect, you call your elders "sir" or "ma'am", hold doors open for people, and say hello as you pass them on the street, but we don't worry about the feet thing.
