and for the same reasons there have been problems with the formation of the EU. The American tax payer would be the one with the most to lose in the near term. In the long term we'd all be better off, but if we applied the same rational we apply to say using tax money to help out schools in rural West Virginia to the third world it would be a major blow.

Still we wouldn't need to change the size and shape of the government (leave the world capital in DC). It would just increase in scope and scale, but the basic form would remain the same. 100 Senators (that might have to change, two for every "state"), 435 members of the House (13.8 million consituents per congressmen), the Supreme court, the executive, etc. Imagine people being able to live throughout the world like it was one big country. Travel, do business, live, you name it just like in America. It would be a beautiful thing. Of course if that happened we'd never get rid of that damn Electoral College!
