To me the point really isn't whether or not he has any WMD. Rather the fact that the guy has a hard on for them so big we can see it on the North American East Coast (now that's a big boner)! Now if he was just your ordinary run of the mill despot this wouldn't be all that troublesome, but given today's economic climate the guy is sitting on a stockpile of cash second only to one (the Saudi's). That means given enough time and given the right economic climate it's not a question of if but when. Then he doesn't even have to get it to the US or anywhere else important. All he's got to do is to set it off in Kuwait, or Saudi Arabia, or anywhere else convienent and suddenly the global supply of oil goes into hyper-inflation mode. Then we're looking at a global depression like the "Great Depression" of the 1930's. You know 25% of everybody out of work. Throw in drought or other economic pressures and our over populated planet is going to be in for a world of hurt. Suddenly all of my effort and plans for my kids and my retirement is for naught. I'd be doing good if I managed to purchase that 100 acres of land out in the Georgia country side with a couple of stocked fish ponds and a decent garden. So long assets, hello subsistance living. Not a pretty picture. Suddenly having to bitch slap a few irrate folks, who really aren't very nice in the first place, starts to make sense to me.

The lesson to be learned here is don't fuck with my rice bowl. You start doing that and I'm going to push the button on the US Economy into wartime mode (that's "arsenal of democracy" for our European friends). America indeed has it's problems, and we're about as violent and virulent as can be, but when you get us scared, or pissed off, you really don't want to be the one left holding the bag.

The 20th century was an exercise in the Old World underestimating the wherewithal of the average American yokel. We're not special, or unique. We just happen to be the world's biggest single economic entity. We're united in that purpose, and in spite of our rugged individualist bent, we draw together when threatened. Heck after our bloodiest war ever (the American Civil War) the two sides quit fighting (which incidentally happened 138 years ago today) drew up in ranks, saluted, and welcomed each other back as one nation! How crazy is that?!?

In world of subdivisions, hatred, distrust, and bickering America can't help but win even with one hand tied behind our backs.
