I had just won my second pulitzer for post writing, and everybody was doing a dance called the 'funky eom'.

I had been playing fallout2, and had stopped by the interplay board to ask how to gas up the car.
after all, why else would one visit a messageboard?
to my surprise, the board was filled w/posts from a spirited rapscallion named, 'Bullcock', and his cohort, 'Ironbirdsux!!'.
apparently, a bunch of nutty hardcore fallout fans had decided to police said board to keep it clean of spam, off topic posts, and other unsightly debris.
zealously dedicated to answering fallout questions, and having really nothing else to do all day, these same fallout fanatics decided to form an organization called 'The Order', led by kharn, and the now infamous expatriate, terra firma, and populated by the likes of jet, fusion, ironbird, and some other guys I can't remember.

back then, I think those were the 2 big fallout clans -- the unwashed village, and the order.
both dedicated to the elimination of spam, and other casual conversation unrelated to fallout.
bullcock (later renamed 'bullock' at the request of board mods), being such a chatty bastard, naturally came into conflict w/this new oppressive paramilitary presence.
the board increasingly found itself under heavy fire from bullock's long running flame wars, and grim and ugly spamming --- hardly a question answered seriously, or legit fallout discussion to be found.
being a fallout fan, himself, and notoriously courteous individual, bullock decided to set up his own board in order to divert all flame wars to a more appropriate ground, and spare interplay's board from the inevitable destruction brought on by this band of fallout fascists.
w/some much needed html help from fusion and jet(?), THE ANTI OPPRESSION FEDERATION was born!!

(I knew we should've gone with 'league of extraordinary gentlemen' --- now those bastards have their own movie!)
