He was the husband of Joanne Evon Urban, who he married on August 5, 1953 in Elroy, Wisconsin, and they would have ten children.

Their only daughter, Stephanie Ann Klett, was Miss Beloit 1990 and first runner-up to Miss Wisconsin 1990, Tricia Ann Luedtke. In 1992, Stephanie was named Miss Wisconsin Central and later selected as Miss Wisconsin of 1992, and then was a non-finalist talent winner (with a cornet melody) at the 1992 Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

In 1998, Joanne Klett took over the Miss Beloit pageant and continued to operate the local program for over twelve years. Fred remained a longtime supporter of the Miss Beloit Scholarship program, and was the proud father of Stephanie and his nine sons, all who survive him. Sympathy to the Klett family.
